THE COMPANY

 

Atomic Vaudeville is an award-winning performance company based in Victoria, British Columbia. 

The company was founded by Small and Richmond in 2004 with the production of a monthly cabaret show that has become a beloved cult hit in Victoria BC.   Since its inception in 2004, AV has produced over 60 cabaret shows in Victoria, Vancouver, Toronto, and Bellingham, and worked with over 200 local and visiting artists.

 

Besides cabarets, Atomic Vaudeville has produced the plays Ride The Cyclone, The Qualities of Zero, Legoland, The History of Everything, and Circus Fire in Toronto, Seattle, Bellingham, Prague, New York, Victoria and Vancouver.

Atomic Vaudeville has also been commissioned to create new work for the Victoria Erotica Film and Arts Festival, the Monday Magazine Awards, the Victoria Art Gallery, the Luminara Festival, the Vancouver International Burlesque Festival and the BC Film Commission Conference.

BRITT SMALL

Artistic Producer

 

Britt studied at LaMama's Director's Intensive in Italy and has trained in various physical theatre forms. She completed her MFA in Directing at the University of Victoria with a production of Sophocles' Electra. She is the artistic producer of company Atomic Vaudeville and plays in the band Slut Revolver. Nationally and internationally, Britt has directed Janet Munsil's Circus Fire and The Ugly Duchess, Jacob Richmond's The Qualities of Zero, Ride the Cyclone and Legoland, The Fantasticks and True West for Blue Bridge Repertory Theatre, numerous new Fringe Festival plays and Firebugs at the William Head prison. Her work as a director has received several national awards as well as a Jessie nomination for My Chernobyl at the Gateway and the Belfry. Britt also works as a dramaturge and book editor and has taught acting, play building, movement and improvisation for various organizations including the University of Victoria and the Canadian College of Performing Arts.

Jacob Richmond

Artistic Director

 

Jacob studied acting and playwriting at Concordia University in Montreal and at UVIC. His plays include:

The Qualities of Zero, Small Returns, Ride the Cyclone and Legoland. Legoland has picked up numerous awards across Canada.  

 

He has also received the Montreal English Critic’s Circle Award and was nominated for a Dora Mavor Moore Award. He has written pieces for CBC Radio as well as for film and television. Jacob performed in My Chernobyl and was nominated for a Jessie Award for his sound design. He is currently performing in Blue Bridge Theatre’s Death of a Salesman and The Fantasticks.

 

 

Alex Wlasenko

Artistic Associate

 

Alex is a writer, performer, bassist, improviser, and physicist originally from Montreal. Highlights since moving to Victoria include: being one of the show runners of Atomic Vaudeville’s cabarets, performing in improv group Remilio Sheen, directing Missie Peter’s solo show “Public Confessions of a Public Servant,” co-creating “The History of Everything,” (Award for Best Physical Theatre/Dance Production, 2008 Victoria Fringe Festival) and being in the original cast of Ride the Cyclone as Virgil, he anthropomorphic bass-playing rat. 

 

 

Andrew Barrett

Administrative Assistant

 

Andrew is an emerging theatre artist in Victoria as well as the Artistic Director of Impulse Theatre. Impulse Theatre has created over fifteen multidisciplinary new works since its inception in 2010. He works as a performer, dancer, choreographer, producer, front of house manager, and administrator all around town. He is a recent recipient of a BC Arts Council’s Early Career Development grant for a mentorship project with Britt in Artistic Director Training.  Andrew has worked with AV since 2010 as a regular member of the cabaret, and most recently as a performer in ACTION REVUE: Feel the Fight.

 

 

John Han

Marketing and Development Coordinator

 

John is a graduate from the Canadian College of Performing Arts’ year 3 program, Company C. He has also trained at Neptune Theatre’s Pre Professional Training Program in Halifax. Born in Seoul, Korea, John was raised in Halifax with a secret dream of one day becoming a kpop star. He now finds joy in performing on stage, music directing for theatre, stage managing for non equity houses, sound designing, vocal arranging and theatre education. John worked with CCPA as an assistant to the marketing director and excited to work with a dynamic group of artists. His recent on stage credits include: A Christmas Carol, Belfry Theatre / Rocky Horror Show, RKO / Lieutenant Nun, Puente and Snafu Dance Theatre, Spring Awakening, Belfry Theatre with Company C.
