HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH
All Videos
The smash-hit, gender-bending, punk rock Broadway musical returns to Victoria for two engagements.
For the past two years, Atomic Vaudeville’s Hedwig and The Angry Inch has delivered the same high-octane energy as seen in their Cabaret Series and productions of The Rocky Horror Show and Ride the Cyclone. Met with glowing reviews, Hedwig quickly went on to generate incredibly positive buzz and a high demand for a return to the Victoria stage. As such, Atomic Vaudeville is proud to present Hedwig and The Angry Inch at not one, but TWO of Victoria’s top performance venues this June!
WEEK ONE
Coming up first is a weeklong run at the stunningly renovated Belfry Theatre from June 12th - 15th. We are honoured that the Belfry has offered to host us and thrilled to provide Victoria audiences an all-ages option to experience this electrifying show.
WEEK TWO
Two weeks later Hedwig and The Angry Inch will blow the roof off of the Capital Ballroom, Victoria’s premiere concert venue. As a 19+ event, the bar will be open throughout the show and audiences will get to experience Hedwig as it was first presented in NYC.
Not familiar with the story? Here is a little synopsis:
Hedwig and the Angry Inch is a rock musical about a fictional rock and roll band fronted by a transgender East German singer, Hedwig Robinson. The book is by John Cameron Mitchell, and the music and lyrics are by Stephen Trask. The story draws on Mitchell's life as the son of a U.S. Army Major General who once commanded the U.S. sector of occupied West Berlin. The character of Hedwig was inspired by a German divorced U.S. Army wife who was a Mitchell family babysitter and moonlighted as a prostitute at her Junction City, Kansas, trailer park home. The music is steeped in the androgynous 1970s glam rock style of David Bowie (who co-produced the Los Angeles production of the show), as well as the work of John Lennon and early punk performers Lou Reed and Iggy Pop.
Atomic Vaudeville was proud to bring this cult-favourite to Victoria in June 2017, and the audiences agreed that it was the right choice. Starring Griffin Leonard Lea as Hedwig, Jana Morrison as Yitzhak, backed by the extremely talented Angry Inch Band
"AMAZING SHOW! Wish I could see it a million times."
"AV does musicals Soooo Well! Localized to Victoria present, Hedwig's backstory of trans-inch-ion & betrayal leads him to redemption. Superb performance of a gender-bent classic you may have seen as its movie!"
and "Phenomenal show!! That was amazing!!".
We are so happy to have brought this frenetic energy extravaganza back to Victoria, and we're already looking ahead to tour the show in 2020!
